this morning.

Notable facts about this morning:

1. This morning I know what day it is. This is commendable considering I was absolutely, 100% convinced that Sunday was Monday and that Monday was Tuesday. Today is Tuesday. Tomorrow is Wednesday. I am slowly awakening from my vacation-and-food-induced intellectual coma.

2. This morning marks the beginning of the end of what I like to call the three day Single Mom Challenge. At midnight on Friday we piled out of the car from a 10-hour drive home from a 5-day Family Thanksgiving, then we piled back in the car at 8:00 Sunday morning to take Papa to the airport for a 3-day business trip. We pick him up tonight. All of the children are still alive. I am still sane. May the Lord be praised.

3. This morning I am taking advantage of my first quiet moment in what seems like weeks - E back in school, boys sleeping - to sit at this computer and write. Nothing profound is going to come out, I know this already. But I am sitting here typing, and that is something.

4. This morning my mom walked over to borrow some paper towels and to play with the boys for a few minutes while I ran E to school around the corner. Walked from where, you ask? Oh, just from the cute little one bedroom house that she and my dad are renting across the street from us. ACROSS THE STREET. It's only for a month, but still. How amazing is that? Even more amazing, he's doing better every day. "Happy" does not begin to cover what this Thanksgiving has been.

5. This morning the Hub accompanied his friend and client Brian "Head" Welch to the 700 Club, where Rev. Pat Robertson interviewed Brian about his new book Stronger: 40 Days of Metal & Spirituality, which was released today. (If you don't know Brian's story, it's worth hearing.) Meanwhile, I cleaned up poo, played with fairies, and tried to figure out where that smell is coming from in the kitchen. In terms of glamour, my days and the Hub's are practically identical. Also, I am so proud of him it hurts a little. Also, this photo kills me.

6. This morning the rain is still falling, just like it did all night long, and the kitchen window is not leaking. Did you hear that, world? NOT LEAKING, for the first time in six years. I am not naive enough to believe this will last, but even still, I want to high five my gutters right now.

'the Hub' looks a little nervous in that photo. is it because he is meeting his hero, or because Pat might tell him that God is going to punish him for that vest? ;-)
